Thysanoptera of Japan

Frankliniella cephalica (Crawford, 1910)

This species is common on the flowers of Bides (Asteraceae) in the Ryukyu Islands, southern Japan. It originated in the Caribbean and is also found in Hawaii and Taiwan. It is similar to F. occidentalis but can be distinguished by the dorsal projection on antennal segment II, which bears two stout setae, and by abdominal tergite VIII, which lacks a posteromarginal comb medially.
